Q. How do I become a member?
A. You simply register by creating a profile based on whether you are a customer (General Member) or wish to Advertise your boat charter (Owner or Charter Company). To create your membership please click here.
Q. I am a 'Boat Owner' who wishes to charter my boat. How do I indicate to customers when my boat will be available?
A.You submit details of your boat's availability with text info on your boat's profile page also on the calendar option, which will be displayed on your profile to ensure that customers can contact you to arrange a booking. Once your profile has been created and validated by BooknBoat, it will then be available in relevant searches. If you have upgraded your listing to one of the few home page spots, then your boat will take one of only 30 allocated places for prime advertising. You can also use forums on BooknBoat and special offers to attract attention to your specific boat.
Q. How much does it cost to be a member of BooknBoat.com?
A. Customer membership is free. For boat owners, options include 6 month membership at £99, or 12 months of online advertising for £149. To increase coverage, additional fees will be incurred for taking high profile spaces or choosing to offer additional boats as part of your package.
Q. Should I have travel insurance?
A. It is strongly advised that you provide your own travel insurance before departing for your trip. This should always include cancellation cover should there be any problem with your booking. BooknBoat cannot take any responsibility for an erroneous booking made between customer and boat owner.
Q. Do I need to be qualified to hire a boat or demonstrate my competence?
A. The owner/representative may require the charterer and /or crew to demonstrate competence in handling and navigating the boat safely by actually operating the boat at sea. Should the charterer and/or crew fail to satisfy the owner in this respect, the owner may terminate this agreement.
Q. Where can I find out the weather forecast?
A. This depends on the area of your sailing trip. This can usually be found on the marina bulletin boards, typically in a number of languages, and/or you should ask at the base or the locals in the village you are visiting. Another options would be to call the base for weather forecasts, but usually there are regular broadcasts on radio and VHF.
Q. Can children take part in a sailing trip?
A. This should always be clarified at the time of booking with the boat owner; however should you be allowed to take children, please ensure that you have the correct life vests for their height and weight.
Q. Will snorkelling and fishing equipment be on board?
A. Such equipment is not a standard piece of equipment aboard a boat, therefore this should be checked with the specific owner to avoid any discrepancies.
Q. What type of luggage should I take?
A. Soft luggage is the best option, as this will often be much easier store once onboard. Suitcases can prove difficult depending upon the size and space of the boat.
